Apply for graduate studies in IR at UT Austin

The University of Texas at Austin invites applications from talented and energetic prospective students wanting to help shape the future of research in Information Retrieval and related areas. UT Austin is one of the premier research universities in the US and is located in one of the country's sunniest and most vibrant cities in which to live and work, Austin.

I have openings in my lab to fully-support multiple PhD students for research at the intersection of IR and crowdsourcing / human computation.

For the iSchool, apply by December 15th (or earlier if possible).

The deadline there says November 15th, but by December 15th will be okay for IR.

For Computer Science, the UT application is due ASAP, and the department application is due by December 17th:

In comparison to the iSchool, the CS department tends to have fewer spots for more applicants, so tends to be even more competitive.  It's okay to apply to both separately.  Both of us have beautiful new facilities in which to work and study.

Finally, know that we have a fairly centralized application process, which means I do not get to make any decisions about whether or not to accept a given student -- it is a much more holistic evaluation of each applicant's overall promise.

That said, if you are applying with a particular interest in IR, please 1) mention my name in your statement of interest, and 2) send me a brief email with a link to your CV so I can keep an eye out for your application and put a good word in for you.  I receive *many* such emails so unfortunately cannot reply to all, but trust I'll receive it if you send it.
