The GESIS department for Computational Social Science (CSS) in
Cologne is seeking a Post-Doc in Knowledge Discovery and Data
Mining (TV-L 13, 100%, initially for 4 years)
to join the Knowledge Discovery team at GESIS - Leibniz Institute
for Social Sciences, Cologne, Germany in collaboration with University
of Koblenz-Landau, Germany

The ideal candidate has experience in one or several of the following fields:
social tagging and algorithms for annotation, linked data & semantic web
Information extraction, data mining and metadata enrichment
Machine Learning, classification & clustering of textual resources
Crawling and processing of web-scale (academic) data sets
Large-scale data processing environments and studies
The candidate is expected to conduct cutting-edge applied research in one or several of the following domains:
Digital libraries and science 2.0 information systems
Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining
Big Data and Linked Data
Social computation and computational social science
The candidate should have completed (or should soon complete) a
PhD in Computer Science. The ideal candidate has a demonstrated
record of independently designing and conducting research and
publishing results in competitive conferences and journals. The open
position is intended to serve as a platform for promising young
researchers (i) to strengthen and develop their own research profile,
(ii) to conduct and publish highly competitive research, (iii) to acquire
research grants and (iv) to apply their research outcomes in real-world
platforms with thousands of unique users per week.

information- and social sciences. GESIS is a research and service

social sciences and closely collaborates with computer science and

to participate in teaching as well as to pursue a habilitation (a
qualification for Full Professor positions in some European countries)
