Shri Shankarlal Sundarbai Shasun Jain College for Women, Chennai
The College has been established with a generous contribution made by Smt Sundarbai Shankarlal Charitable Trust, Chennai of the "SHASUN" Family and Group. The aim of Sri Shankarlal Sundarbai Shasun Jain College for Women is to provide quality education to young aspiring women candidates and to equip them to meet the changing needs of the society and industry. The College seeks to foster inter-disciplinary working within the campus and encourages external collaboration. In pursuit of this goal, the College seeks to develop in the students an intellectual curiosity and an open mind to excel academically and in extra-curricular activities.
The College has a team of highly reputed established academicians, a well equipped library and an impressive Computer Centre with internet facilities. The college is affiliated to the University of Madras and is accredited 'A' grade by NAAC. The college offers various PG and UG courses.
About the Library
The College Library is well-stocked, computerized & fully air- conditioned with a wide range of books, journals, newspapers, magazines, audio and video library along with reading facilities for the exclusive use of students and faculty. The library also has internet facility.
About Society for the Advancement of Library and Information Science (SALIS)
SALIS is a registered professional body, actively involved in the development of all spheres of LIS by organizing various programs including conferences, seminars, lectures and workshops on emerging areas. It has many chapters across the country to provide services in the respective regions. One of the objectives of SALIS is to train the LIS professionals to handle the latest IT tools and techniques more effectively and efficiently in order to provide high quality services to the users.
About the Training Programme
Libraries are adopting various IT tools, techniques and software to provide many innovative and collaborative services to the users using social networking tools. To cater the demands of present generation, who expect library services through social networking tools, libraries are attempting to build library websites, blogs, portal by using many tools. WordPress is a popular tool that can used by LIS professionals for this purpose.
Objectives of the Training Programme
To emphasise the significance of library websites and blogs
To design and develop library websites and blogs to provide single point access for library resources and services by integrating WordPress and social networking tools
To give hands on training to the participants to create library website and blogs using WordPress and hosting the created contents on the Internet
