A fully funded Post-doc position at the Databases and Information Systems Research Group, University of Basel, Switzerland

The Databases and Information Systems Research Group at the University of Basel offers a Post-Doc position for the period of 24 months in the research project IMOTION (Intelligent Multi-Modal Augmented Video Motion Retrieval System) funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) in the context of the
EU ERA-Net initiative Chist-ERA. The targeted start date is between August 15, 2014, and October 15, 2014.
--- Requirements:
- a completed PhD degree with outstanding performance in Computer Science or a related field, preferably with focus on
databases, multimedia information retrieval, distributed information systems
- good level of both English (mandatory) and German (desired) language skills, written and spoken
- excellent Java, preferably also C++, programming skills
- experience in software development
- ability to work in a team

You will be working in a research project in the following field
- Content-based multimedia retrieval (particularly focusing on motion-based retrieval in video collections)
- Application of technologies for Big data analysis and processing (e.g., Map/Reduce) for multimedia analysis and retrieval
- Index structures for large multimedia collections
- Novel interfaces for multimedia retrieval (e.g., speech, sketches)
