Dear Hackers,
IBM builds its cloud offerings on open standards to ensure interoperability
and accelerate clients' success with cloud.
To promote awareness and development of skills relevant for this platform,
IBM University Relations program brings to you "Cloud Hackathon" an
opportunity to Learn, add some cool skills to your resume, compete and win
some exciting prizes and opportunity to work with IBMers on interesting
Open Cloud projects.
The hackathon is based on Cloud Foundry & Opscode Chef. We launched the
contest on 21st Jan and are accepting entries for Phase 1 until 16th Feb.
Phase 1 of the contest requires students to only submit ideas. So register
first with a simple 2-3 line idea and IBMers will be available to help &
guide you all along the way

If hackers have questions about the hackathon or want help to brainstorm
ideas, we have an Ideation session that will take place on Thu, 13th Feb at
5:30 pm
We would like to invite students from your esteemed institute to
participate enthusiastically.
Did you ever try setting up a load balanced, high availability Apache
Server cluster OR a MySQL Cluster. These are time consuming tasks
requiring good amount of expertise in system administration,
installation and configuration. And this is a candidate for
automation using Opscode chef, take a look at 100s of such automation
artifacts (recipes / cookbooks) here -
http://community.opscode.com/cookbooks and cook up your idea around
Opscode Chef Automation for the "Cloud Hackathon"
some examples include
Email / Instant Messaging platforms & servers like : IRC,
Horde
Appservers like Apache, WebSphere Community Edition,
possibly with High Availability, in Cluster or Load
Balanced
Databases like MySQL, Cloudscape with High Availability, in
Cluster or Load Balanced
Automation to do the hardening of OS Instances to make it
secure
Composition services in the PaaS platform like Cloud Foundry are
essentials and will soon become very basic expectation of the
application developer to have them available from the platform. For
example mail and messaging, or GPS/motion tracking, reservations and
more.. So, think of cooking up a killer composition service on Cloud
Foundry as your idea for the "Cloud Hackathon"
Once your ideas are submitted and pass through the Phase 1 of the contest,
we will help you to develop them for the Phase 2 of the contest. IBM
mentors will help and guide you throughout the Phase 2 of the hackathon
