The position:
CSIRO Computational Informatics (CCI) are currently looking for a motivated PhD graduate who is enthusiastic about making a hands-on contribution to solving the research challenges found in natural language processing, electronic health records, semantic data management, data mining and data analysis.
The Health Data and Semantics team is a world class team of computer scientists and research engineers at CCI. The team is a key contributor to the Health Data Management and Semantics research program at the Australian e-Health Research Centre (AEHRC - http://aehrc.com/), an unincorporated joint venture between CSIRO and the Queensland Government. The research program focuses on technology which improves the use and effectiveness of routinely collected health data. We are seeking a candidate to join the team in developing novel software-based tools that provide clinical decision support from medical narratives.
Specifically you will:
. Contribute to the health data natural language processing and semantics program; . Develop innovative concepts, theories, tools and techniques related to the processing of health data; . Obtain ethical and legislative approval for use of health data; . Evaluate the effectiveness of computational informatics solutions through qualitative and quantitative analysis; . Publish scientific results in leading clinical and technical journals and conferences; . Continue to enhance CSIRO's research reputation for integrated and multi-disciplinary science related to clinical language processing and health data semantics by solving real issues and making a difference to external partners and stakeholders.
Location: Brisbane, QLD
Salary: $78K to $88K p.a. plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will hold a PhD in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent field.
You will also have:
. The ability to investigate issues of complex and ill-defined problems and develop appropriate responses by adapting/creating and testing alternative solutions; . Demonstrated knowledge and skills in natural language processing (e.g. information extraction, information retrieval, machine learning) and/or semantic data processing; . Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, for example, publications in academic environments such as scientific journals/conference proceedings, experience presenting and demonstrating at conferences, industry exhibitions, internal training seminars; . Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team to prototype research ideas and develop them into demonstration and/or proof of concept systems. In addition, a demonstrated ability to interact with external/internal collaborators and stakeholders.
Owing to terms of the fellowship, candidates must not have more than 3 years of relevant Postdoctoral experience.
