The Yahoo! Labs within Barcelona Media has an opening for a postdoc position in the Web Retrieval group for the EU STREP project MULTISENSOR (FP7-ICT-2013-10). MULTISENSOR envisages at developing technologies that will provide access to multilingual and multicultural economic and news story material, and deliver a context-aware, spatio-temporal, and sentiment-oriented interpretation, into a coherent whole. In addition, semantic integration of heterogeneous media, including computer-mediated interactions, will be examined to reveal latent meanings and gain an understanding based on social intelligence.

Job description
In this position you will be working together with our scientists towards achieving the research goals and deliverables of MULTISENSOR. Successful candidates should have demonstrated their ability to perform high-quality original research in the areas of Natural Language Processing (NLP), context & semantic analysis, event detection, and graph-based modelling. Candidates should also be proficient in developing proof-of-concept prototypes and possess the ability to work with various open source NLP and ML tools and libraries.
Required skills/qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or Computational Linguistics;
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English;
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills;
- Proven ability to perform high-quality original research in context/semantic analysis, event detection, and graph-based modeling, both independently and as a member of a team;
- Experience in research and development of applications in the areas of NLP and social media;
- Proven ability to develop proof-of-concept prototypes for experimenting with novel algorithms;
- Experience in open source NLP and ML tools and libraries;
- Proficiency in at least one of Python, Perl, C/C++, Java, Matlab;
