Senior Search Engineer Openings

Want to work at a start-up where you can really make a difference?

Glassdoor, the world’s fastest growing career community and 2012 Webby Winner for “Best Employment Website”, is looking for a search and information retrieval engineer to create a world class job and employer search platform. This is your chance to share your work with a worldwide community of over 14M users and make your mark on the #1 employment app on Facebook – and we’re just getting started.

Responsibilities
As Senior Search Software Engineer, you’ll play a central role in the IR system that drives the Glassdoor website. You will work on areas such as document indexing, retrieval, and relevancy scoring. We’re looking for a developer with a strong background in both theoretical and applied information retrieval.

As a fast-growing startup, we look for self-starters who thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment – which means wearing many hats, being able to change direction quickly, and showing an eagerness to learn new technologies as the need arises. In this role you work with a small, collaborative team of engineers, QA, and product managers – so excellent interpersonal and communication skills are also a must. But most importantly – we look for people that can prioritize, multi-task, and deliver – because it’s a lot more fun to get things done.

Skills and Requirements
  • Deep understanding of the mathematical underpinnings of information retrieval
  • Experience working on a production level, high-volume IR system such as a search engine, including vertical search
  • Experience working with open source search software (Lucene/Solr), ideally using Java
  • Bonus points if you have experience with any of the following areas: Experimental design, A/B testing, statistical analysis; Machine Learning (ML); Natural Language Processing (NLP); Big Data (Map-Reduce, Hadoop, Pig); Web crawling; Internationalization
This position is located in Sausalito, CA (just minutes from San Francisco, over the Golden Gate Bridge). Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience, including equity in an early stage startup backed by top-tier VCs (Benchmark Capital, Sutter Hill, Battery Ventures, and DAG Ventures).
